ARTUQIDS OF MARDIN, Nasir al-Din Artuq Arslam, (A.H. 597-637) (A.D. 1201-1239), copper dirham, pictorial type, no mint, dated A.H. 623 = A.D. 1226, obv. facing male bust (Sun), rev. five lined legend in circle, overstruck on dirham of A.H.620 as previous lot, (A.1830, M.1062, S/S 44, Edham 90, BMC 455-7). Polished, nearly very fine and rare.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 59 (lot 2286). Overstriking on this issue is often noted but rarely is the original type identified. In this example a clear outline of the back of the roman styled head is evident (S/S 43).
