REPUBLIC, C. Antius, (c.47 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, obv. bare head to right of tribune Antius Restio, RESTIO behind, rev. Hercules facing with club and trophy, C.ANTIVS C.F., (S.316; Cr.455/1, Syd.970). Bankers mark on cheek, and slightly off centre, otherwise good fine.

The Antius Restio portrayed here was the tribune who after passing his sumptuary law, was compelled to seek refuge at Lavinium, in which city there existed a special cult of the Dei Penates.
