Together with copies of discharge certificates from the N.S.W. Citizen's Bushmen (which confirm awards); Cape Colony Cyclist Corps; Cape Colonial Forces; Special District Mounted Police and N.S.W. Police Dept. William Henry Glissan was a member of 'B' Squadron of the N.S.W. Citizens Bushmen, sometimes known as the 1st Australian Bushmen. He was discharged after serving 1 year & 175 days, for which he received the Queen's South Africa Medal with four bars. He returned to South Africa, possibly as a horse handler and, on 26th September 1901, enlisted in the Cape Colony Cyclists Corps. After three months service he re-enlisted in the same Unit for a further three months. At the end of this term he enlisted in the Colonial Defence Corps, later transferring to the Special District Mounted Police, in which he served until the end of October 1902, thereby earning the King's South Africa Medal with two bars. On his return to Australia he joined the N.S.W. Mounted Police, ultimately resigning in December 1913.
