GROUP OF THREE: India General Service Medal 1854-95 - one bar - North West Frontier; Indian Mutiny Medal 1857-58 - one bar - Defence of Lucknow, also an unofficial 'two bar' brooch for Goojerat, Mooltan; Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (VR) 1874-1901, small reverse lettering. 2133 Pte R.Higgins 32rd RE T on first medal, R.Higgins 32rd L.I. on second, 2133 R.Higgins 32nd Regt on third. All medals impressed. Very fine.
Pte Robert Higgins, No.2133 served in the 32nd Foot fro m 14Dec1841 to 20Dec1861. Served in the East Indies thirteen years. Served in the actions at Mooltan and Googerat 1848/9, medal and two bars. In the Defence of the Residency Lucknow from 30Jun to 22Nov1857. Battle of Cawnpore 6Dec1857, capture of Fort Delhi and Turhool Jul1858, medal and bar. Late claim for I.G.S. medal 1874. Medal roll L/Mil/5/46.N.W.F. Pensr Robert Higgins 32rd Foot. Services under Sir Colin Campbell 11May1852. Rohl signed at Kingwilliamstown, 12Jul1873. Conduct very good, in possession of four good conduct badges, also the good conduct medal & 5 pound gratuity for long and meritorious service. Never tried by Court-Martial. Allowed to reckon one years additional service for defence of Lucknow. He signed his discharge documents with a cross. He returned to his native village, Pylle, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, where on 19Jun1896 he received his prize money awarded for service in the Indian Mutiny 1857/8. Awarded a pension of a shilling and one penny per diem. Together with 20 photocopy pages including discharge papers, research, photograph of his house, auction catalogue.
