This order established by the Peruvian Government as an award for exceptional merit to officers of the Peruvian Armed Forces and to foreign officers who have given valuable service to the government. Order named to commemorate the Battle of Ayacucho on December 9, 1824 which Peru won independence from Spain. Comes only in one class.
