CARACALLA, (A.D. 198-217), gold aureus, issued 213, Rome mint, (7.328 grams), obv. laureate draped bust to right of Caracalla, draped and cuirassed, around ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, rev. Providentia standing to left, holding rod and sceptre, globe at feet, around PROVIDENTIA DEORVM, (S.6744, RIC 227, C.528). Minor scrape marks on the portrait otherwise exremely fine and rare.
