BOIOTIA, Thebes mint, Pyrri.. Magistrate, 368-364 B.C., AE 13, (1.56 grams), Obv. youthful head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin headdress, Rev. club to right, above **P*YR / P I with Boiotian shield between all within incuse concave circle. (cf.S.2406, BCD 524, BMC 200 (p.87, Pl.XV, 17), SNG Cop. 372). Good fine/ nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex BCD Collection (Triton IX, lot 629r illustrated). BCD notes that it is an earlier issue, using the obverse typical of many Macedonian coins of this period. An issue from a magistrate in bronze that has no known corresponding silver issues. It fits into this period of die-linking discontinuity among the staters better than anywhere else.
