AGRIPPINA, mother of Gaius (Caligula), (d. A.D. 33), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 37-41, (25.68 grams), obv. draped bust Agrippina Senior to right, around AGRIPPINA M F MAT C CAESARIS AVGVSTI, dotted border, rev. carpentum drawn to left by two mules, above [S] P Q R, and MEMORIAE AGRIPPINAE, (S.1827 [£450 F], RIC 55, BMC 81, CBN 128). Light brown, slightly off centred obverse otherwise nearly fine and rare.
Ex John Dean Collection. Her coinage, like that of her husband's Germanicus was all issued posthumously initially under her son Caligula and later under her brother-in-law Claudius.
