NEWCASTLE JOCKEY CLUB, Life Members fob in gold and enamel (9ct, 8.3gms, 37mm x 26mm) by Stokes & Martin, inscribed on reverse 'A.Frauenfelder 23.4.52'. Very fine.
A.Frauenfelder, a former air ace, well known studmaster and member of Newcastle Jockey Club Committee. Born in Minyit he acquired a team of jumpers and rode them himself. He broke in and educated Flash Jack who won the 1915 Grand National Steeplechase. Frauenfelder started Woodville Stud near Maitland in 1924. In 1938 the stud was moved to Tamworth where Ie Bosc Giard was his last importation. He raced many horses, his best being Royal Prince, Accession, Rembrandt, Lord Son, Vergure, Welcome and Hansome. In World War I he left Australia with an infantry unit and joined the R.A.F. in England where he attained the rank of Captain.
