CILICIA, Hierapolis-Kastabala, (2nd-1st century B.C.), AE 24, (8.168 grams), obv. bust of city-goddess to right, behind monogram MT**L*, rev. Goddess seated, wearing kalathos, holding small sceptre, at right a palm branch or pine tree, to right **IEROPOLITWN /TWN PROS TW[I]* to left **PURAMWI /THS IERAS* in exergue in two lines **KAI /ASULOU*, (cf.S.5547, SNG Levante 1571 [This Coin, Plate 106], Dupont-Sommer et Robert 'La Deesse de Hierapolis Castabala [Cilicia], No.7 [p.68]). Very fine or better and very rare.
Ex Edoardo Levante Collection. This coin one of five known examples and equal in fineness to the Paris Collection example the best of the other four examples published.
