CARIA, Knidos, (c. 465-449 B.C.), silver drachm, (6.14 grams), obv. forepart of lion to right, rev. head of Aphrodite to right of fine archaic style, hair in lines and bound with plain diadem, all within incuse square, (S.4833 Cahn, Knidos No.82 [same dies, obv. V39, rev.R56], SNG Lockett 2883). Attractive grey tone of good metal, well centred, good very fine/extremely fine and rare.
Ex Spink Noble Numismatics Sale 36 (lot 386) and previously Spink Australia Sale 8 (lot 1502). There are 65 examples known from these dies, a similar example in our sale 75 (lot 1823) realised a total of $1165.
