PARTHIA, Kingdom of, Mithradates II (c. 123-88 B.C.), silver drachm, (4.120 grams), Rhagae mint, obv. long bearded bust to left wearing tiara, star in centre, rev. archer seated right on throne, five line inscription, (cf.S.7372, Sellwood 28.1, Shore 94 [this coin]). Extremely fine, and very scarce.

Ex CNG with ticket and previously from the Fred Shore Collection (lot 94) and illustrated in his book (p.103 No.94). Shore notes in his book that this is the first example on a Parthian coin of the famous Parthian tiara.
