Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $80
MADRAS PRESIDENCY, in the name of Aurangzib 'Alamgir I (A.H.1068-1118, A.D. 1658-1707), silver rupee, impressed with the mint name Chinapatan and known as the "Madras rupee", Regnal Year 5[0 or 1] (1706-1707), (cf.Pr. 118, KM. -). Very fine with a very clear mint and partial date reading, probably the last year of issue for this ruler and very rare.
Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 59 (lot 2245). This very rare coin was probably struck in the last year (51) as no examples are known for year 50. No examples of years 50 or 51 were present in the Pridmore or Pitchfork collections (N.N. Sale 48, but an example year 41 lot 1989 realised $240).
Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
