MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.550 grams), Abydus? mint, issued 323-317 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, MH monogram over pentagram in lower left field, cornucopia below left, to right **ALEXANDPOU*, (cf.S.6702; Price 1524, M.381, BMC 1524a-c). With some original mint bloom, extremely fine and rare.
