WWI, handwritten diary, 29.9.1915-19.11.1916 by Jack Edmonds, excerpts 1915 'Thursday 23rd, great excitement on board a U boat torpedoed, just behind us all hands saved all the boats crews sleeping alongside the boats 'Monnopolis''; 1916, 'June 22nd, guns going strong on both sides go over parapet and get some strawberries for Jim', 'June 26th, great excitment our Flying men have a day out, fire 3 Observation Balloons the boys in the front trenches cheer the huns hear the cheering and open with their Big Guns but our boys mix it with them and we have a lovely time standing to in the Rain all Night'; together with postcards, letters, photographs, souvenir booklet, magazine 'Australia in the Great War' (3), Y.M.C.A. wallet with envelopes, part note pad, pocket watch, Railway Lever Q Nielson Hobart, camera, vest pocket autograph Kodak with close up lens attachment, shoulder rank badges, buttons, souvenir brooch, Returned from Active Service badge double headed penny, magnifying glass, British and French flags, the ANZAC book, cloth Welcome Home banner, banknotes, enamelled battalion badge, cartridge case, sand filled marker. Good - very fine.
