MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.820 grams), Chios mint, issued 270-225 B..C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, sphinx to left above OIE monogram to left, to right **ALEXANDR[OU], P* under throne, (cf.S.6713, Price 2364, BMC -, M.-, Prokesch-Osten (1) 247, Bauslaugh series 31 (ANS MN 24 , Pl. 7, 39-78 [same dies]). Grey tone, well centred, good very fine and very rare.

Ex Recent Seleucid Hoard. The coin type according to Robert Bauslaugh is known only from one obverse and two reverse dies. He knew of only three examples of this type.
