SYRIA, Coele-Syria, Heliopolis, Philip I, (A.D. 244-249), AE 28, (16.396 grams), obv. Philip I, laureate bust to right draped and cuirassed, around AVT CAES M IVL PHILIPPVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. Propylaeum of the temple of Jupiter Heliopolitanus, approached by a flight of steps flanked at each end by a pedestal, and consists of a portico of twelve columns, flanked at each end by a tower, over the centre of the portico is a pediment and arched entrance a tree seen within, above COL IVL AVG FE / IO MH, below in exergue COL HEL and an altar, (S.-, BMC 16-17 [p.292, Pl.XXXVI, 6], Price & Trell fig. 284). Dark patina with strong earthern highlights, an exceptional piece, nearly extremely fine and very rare in this condition.
