ITALY, Campania, Neapolis, (c.395-385 B.C.), silver stater, (7.09 grams), obv. head of female (nymph) to right, with diadem, rev. man-headed bull to left, Nike above flying to left, below O, in exergue **NEOPOLIT[WN], (cf.S.299 [£225], Rutter 182 [obv. die 114, rev. die 165], BMC 34). Attractive grey tone, fine/good fine, very scarce.
Ex Dr. Colin Burnside Collection, and previously from Noble Numismatics Sale 58 (lot 3458). Most examples of this period that come from this mint are worn coins. Eleven examples are known from this die combination.
