BYZANTINE, hinged solid bronze Bishop's cross (9th-10th century A.D.), with attached loop for wearing, height 102mm, width 46mm, with incised decoration of a bishop with oustretched arms, crosses below hands and with name IOANHC above (John), of double thickness with hinge at base and with five depressions for settings of five precious stones (symbol of bishop as owner). Very fine and very rare.
