ITALY, Lucania, Heraclea, (330-280 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.670 grams), obv. head of Athena to right wearing crested Corinthian helmet adorned with a Scylla, traces of letters in right field, rev. [I-HPAK**LHIWN*] to right off flan, Heracles standing facing, head turned to right, strangling a lion with both hands, between legs an owl in field to left a club, (S.389; Work 39, cf.Van Keuren 50, cf.SNG ANS 60). Toned, nearly very fine and a scarce type.
