GROUP OF EIGHT: Distinguished Service Medal (GVR); King's South Africa Medal 1902- two bars - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902; 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; Jubilee Medal 1935; Naval Long Service & Good Coduct Medal (GVR); HMAS Sydney-SMS Emden Commemorative Medal (Mexican peso mounted by W. Kerr). R.A.N. 1066 T.E.Mullins on the second medal S.B.S. H.M.A.S.Sydney on the first medal; T.E.Mullins S.B.A. RN 350791; third medal, O.N. 1606 T.E.Mullins S.B.S.on third medal, 1606 T.E.Mullins D.S.M. CH.S.B.S. R.A.N. on the fourth medal; fifth medal, same as previous except C.S.B.S. rank; sixth medal, Lieut. T.E.Mullins D.S.M. R.A.N.; on the sixth medal, 1606 T.E.Mullins S.B.C.P.O. R.A.N.on the seventh medal last medal unnamed. First, second and sixth medals engraved the rest impressed. Second medal (KSA) re-named and unconfirmed. First seven medals mounted for wear and the last medal loose. Very fine, a rare group for the historic Sydney-Emden action.
Thomas Edward Mullins, Sick Berth Attendant, Sick Berth Steward, Chief Sick Berth Steward, Sick Berth Chief Petty Officer and later Lieutenant. DSM citation: 'For services in the action between HMAS Sydney and the German Cruiser Emden on the 9th of November, 1914.' L.G. 10 April 1915, p.3551. LS&GCM 1921. Together with a magnificent full length photo taken pre-1935 showing Mullins in full ceremonial dress uniform wearing his medal group which does not include the KSA. Vendor acquired group from the recipient's family. Ex Tom Hanley Collection.
