INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, Victoria, 1873, in bronze (47mm), inscribed around edge 'Robert Russell Etchings'. Edge knocks and bruises, obverse field with scratches, otherwise very good.

In 1836 Robert Russell was appointed to the infant settlement at Port Phillip and commenced to survey the Melbourne site, however his difficult personality led to his replacement by Robert Hoddle. Russell subsequently practised as an architect in Melbourne and was the pioneer lithographer and etcher in Melbourne. His depictions of early Melbourne are now prized (see 'The Dictionary of Australian Artists' by Joan Kerr, Melbourne, 1992, p.691)
