H.M.A.S. Sydney - S.M.S. Emden, Nov 9 1914, medal by W.Kerr Sydney, with chop marks (C.1914/4). With case of issue. Good extremely fine.

Together with handwritten note 'From the Captain, Officers and Ships Company of the Sydney a board the Sydney on ..... (the date of the Sydney-Emden ..) Presented to A.N.Soc by (signed) Captain Glossop, March 1919'. The finest specimen was selected by Captain Glossop because it was a numismatic institution. In the report of the Annual General Meeting in March 1919, the president of the Australian Numismatic Society referred to the gift ... 'The president then laid on the table a beautifully mounted specimen of one of the dollars salved from the 'Emden' and presented to the Society by Captain Glossop on behalf of the Captain, Officers and Ship's Company of H.M.A.S. Sydney aboard on November 9th, 1914, the date of the 'Sydney' - 'Emden' engagement. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Captain Flossop for his interesting gift.
