Joined A Coy 17Bn, 30Sep1915 transferred to Royal Naval Air Service, 05Dec1916 joined Royal Flying Corps School of Military Aeronautics, graduated, appointed 2nd Lieutenant 14May1917, posted to No. 68 Sqn A.F.C. 18May1917, Central Flying School Upavon 01Jul1917, graded Flying Officer, attached No. 3 Sqn A.F.C. 28Jul1917, promoted Lieutenant 04Aug1917. Accompanied by set of miniatures; silver identity disc bracelet engraved,"Lieut. C.C.Sands / Presb. / A.F.C."; Returned from Active Service badge numbered 152228; RSL badge (1929 issue); Institution of Engineers Australia / Canberra / 1928 blue enamel and gilt lapel badge; another but for Sydney / 1930 red enamel and gilt, last two by Amor Sydney. Together with original delivery envelope for medals.
