AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, in bronze (90mm) by Hardy Brothers London & Sydney, reverse, Practice with Science, engraved on reverse, 'Sir Wm. Macarthur / (President) / 1870'. Extremely fine and a rare award to John Macarthur's son.
Sir William Macarthur, youngest son of John Macarthur, 1825 appointed to Camden Bench, 1836 Committee of Australian Museum and from 1853 was Trustee, 1840 organised association for promoting assisted migration, 1849 elected Port Philip, 1851 Lachlan and Lower Darling, 1855 N.S.W. Commissioner for International Exhibition Paris, 1856 Knighthood, 1860 first Vice President Climatisation Society of N.S.W., 1862 Commissioner London Exhibition, 1864 Legislative Council, 1870 Trustee for Free Public Library, 1879 President of the Agricultural Society of N.S.W., 1860-1880 Member of the Senate at University of Sydney, for many years was Vice President of the Australia Club, 1882 died and left his estate to his niece Elizabeth, wife of Captain Arthur Onslow.
