TRIO: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 907 Pte E.L.C. Young. 1/A.N.& M.E.F. on first medal, 907 ER/CPL. E.L.C.Young. 1/A.N.& M.E.F. on second and third medals. Impressed. Very fine.

Eric Lue Cavin Young, Naval & Military Expeditionary Force Tropical Unit, 1 Battalion, Emb.19Aug1914 HMAT Berrima from Sydney, served 6-months in New Guinea, Disch.18Jan1915, re-enlisted 01May1915 and allocated service number 2713, to ANZAC on 3Oct1915, hospitalised with Malaria on 02Nov1915, joined 3 Battalion 22Aug1916 and served in France, married in England 07Oct1918, RTA 24Feb1919 at the rank of Troop Sergeant. Together with N.S.W.G. Ambulance Corps Life Member Efficiency award engraved E.L.Young on the obverse and 1942 on reverse, suspended from a NSWR Ambulance Corps bar impressed on reverse 'E.L.Young / Efficient. 1935'. Both are in 9ct gold. National Rifle Association of NSW medal in silver, missing small suspender ring and ribbon, engraved on reverse 'Granville Tech. Col. / F.C.Young / 1909.' Daily Mail Empire Day Rifle Competition Medal in silver and in original case of issue by Elkington & Co. Engraved on reverse 'F.C.Young / (Captain) / 99'. The Daily Mail Empire Day Rifle Competition was instituted in 1910 and shot at Bisley. In the inaugural year the Greater Britain Section was won by Granville Technical College Rifle Club. (ref. O'Connor, Shooting Awards and Prize Medals to Australian Military Forces, Fig.221 and p.109). F C Young is related to E. L. C. Young. He served as 579 Lance Corporal Frederick William Cavin Young with A.N.& M.E.F. and another related member of the shooting team, W. C. Young, served as 6845 Private Will Charles Cavin Young. The three 'Young' men mentioned all had the same address for their next-of-kin on their service papers. Also included is a Returned from Active Service Badge plus a small silver crest of the City of Edinburgh. Vendor notes indicate Eric Young was also awarded the Royal Shipwreck Relief & Humane Society of NSW Medal in silver for Saving Life at Lawsons Creek on 31 January 1909. Together with a photo of E.L.C.Young in uniform wearing an ANZAC 'A' on his colour patch. Ex Tom Hanley Collection.
