GERMAN SET OF HYDROMETERS, WWII, for use on a boat (submarine) for measuring density of oil and battery acid, set of five instruments in case by Albert Dargatz, Hamburg 1 (4 hydrometers, 1 thermometer), gold blocked on lid '4 Spindeln / 1 Thermometer', together with a photo of a German Navy crewman in uniform and inscribed on reverse, 'At sea from 13.1.41 hope you keep me in your thoughts, Heinrich' (basic translation). Very fine.
