Estimate $2,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au

AKBAR, (A.H. 963-1014, A.D. 1556-1605), silver rupee, Dawal Bundar mint, not dated, Ardibehest month, (KM.93.9, PML 346). Good very fine and extremely rare.

The type for this mint is listed in only the Lahore catalogue and is not present in any of the other major published catalogues. The mint is located in the province of Sind and was an old river port. Whitehead claimed that it was issued in probably RY 42 but this does not seem substituated by the illustration or the text, however other examples are known with the RY 42. The mint of Dewal Bandar or Dewal as it was first read was published in a paper called "Some Novelties in Mughal Coins' published in the Numismatic Chronicle in 1896 and it was present then in only the White King Collection.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
