JAMES I AND PRINCE CHARLES, hand engraved Royalist counter in silver, possibly by Simon de Passe, c.1625, 27mm, (2.3 grams), obv. James I bust facing, rev. Prince Charles three-quarter right, (Eimer -, MI 272 (Illustrated plate XXXIV, No.1), Fearon -). Cast and chased, extremely fine, rare.
Ex. I.S. Wright. This counter is struck in imitation of engraving, many varieties of this type are known, and those with a bearded Prince Charles are attributed to being struck c.1625. They are used as markers or counters "for reckoning and for play"
