THRACE, Kingdom of, Lysimachus, (323-281 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.272 grams), Ainos mint, issued c. 280 B.C., obv. head of Alexander to right, with diadem and horn of Ammon, rev. Athena enthroned to left, supporting Nike, spear behind, HI monogram to left, to right **BASILEWS*, to left **LUSIMAXOU*, (cf.S.6814, Thompson -, Weber 2727 [same dies], Pozzi 1172, SNG Delepierre 783 [same dies]). A beautiful golden grey tone with a strong portrait, nearly full flan, extremely fine and very rare.
Ex Spink London with their ticket, previously from Spink Australia Auction Sale 27 (lot 1164) as part of 'the Important Collection of Alexander the Great Portait Coins' of that sale, previously from Bank Leu, Zurich Auction Sale 36, May 1985 (lot 96).
