MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold quarter stater, (2.108 grams), Miletus mint, issued c.323-319 B.C., obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, hair plaited, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, KH monogram in left field, to right double axe, **ALEXANDPOU*, (S.6709; Price 2117 (p.282), SNG BMC 2117, M.578, Thompson Miletus Pl.27, Nos.179-180). Good very fine, well centred, with soil still encrusted on the obverse; a very rare denomination.
