NEW ZEALAND, Group of Five: 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Burma Star with clasp 'Pacific'; War Medal 1939-45; New Zealand Service Medal 1939-45. All unnamed. Very fine - extremely fine.
N.Z.D.2417 Stoker 1st Class Eldon Hudson Eccles, served on several ships including HMNZS Achilles during the period when she provided cover for the occupation of Wallis Island by U.S.Marines in May/June 1942 and during the Solomon Islands campaign when she was attacked and damaged by four Japanese aircraft on 5 January 1943, killing 13 men and injuring eight others. On arrival at Espiritu Santo for temporary repairs Achilles holed the U.S. repair ship, Vestal, as she went alongside.
