SICILY, Katana (Catana), (430-420 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.21 grams), obv. slow quadriga driven to right by male charioteer holding goad, Nike flying to right above, rev. laureate head of Apollo to right, hair turned up behind, before mostly off the flan [KATAN]AION, (S.767 [ú1500], SNG ANS 1248 [same dies], Rizzo Pl.XI, No.8, [same dies as this example] = Naville Sale XV, [1930], lot No.279 [same dies], ACNAC Dewing 585 [same reverse die], not present in any other SNG's etc). Well centred for issue only a few known, a larger flan example described by Rizzo, very fine, light tone and very rare.
