PHRYGIA, Laodikeia, (c.100-90 B.C.), silver cistophoric tetradrachm, (12.14 grams), obv. cista mystica containing serpent, all within ivy wreath, rev. bow in case between two coiled serpents, to left **LAO*, to right a caduceus with fillet, monogram of ANTI above, (cf.S.5147, SNG von Aulock -, SNG Cop. -, BMC 13 [variant monogram]). Good very fine and unpublished except for the few examples listed all coming from the one hoard.

Ex Noble Numismatics Auction Sale 79 (lot 3469). and from the Garth R. Drewry Collection, CNG Triton VIII Sale (lot 1883 part) and previously from CNG Auction Sale XXVII, September 29, 1993 (lot 638, illustrated). An extremely rare symbol from a scarce mint of cistophori. A similar example in a CNG Sale Triton VI (January 14, 2003 lot 425) of the same type with same symbols was sold at US $525 +15%.
