Q. POMPONIUS MUSA. (c.66 B.C.), silver denarius (3.27 grams), obv. laureate head of Apollo right, star behind, dotted border, rev. Urania the Muse of Astronomy standing left, [pointing with rod at globe on tripod stand], to right Q POMPONI, to left MVSA, dotted border, (S.359, Cr.410/8, Syd.823, RSC Pomponia 22). Off centred, weak in places, otherwise good very fine, rare.

The Musa types are always collected because of their association with the arts. Urania was the Muse of Astronomy and is portrayed on this coin with her attributes. Only a few dies were utilised for this type according to the study by Crawford.
