COMMODUS, issue in honour of Marcus Aurelius, (A.D. 180-192), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 180, (3.23 grams), obv. bare head of Marcus Aurelius to right, around DIVVS M ANTONINVS PIVS, rev. around CONSECRATIO, pyramidal crematorium of four storeys, with garlanded base, the apex surmounted by emperor in quadriga, (S.5979, RIC 275 [Commodus], RSC 97 [Aurelius]). Nearly extremely fine and rare.
