CHARLES II, (1660-1685), Peace of Breda, silver medal 1667. 56mm, obv. laureate bust of King right with long hair CAROLVS SECVNDVS DEI GRATIA MAG BRI FRAN ET HIB REX, rev. Britannia seated near the sea shore, contemplating her navies sailing on the ocean. FAVENTE DEO (God being propitious) and BRITANNIA below, edge reads in finely executed raised letters: CAROLVS SECVNDVS PACIS ET IMPERII RESTITVTOR AVGVSTVS (Charles II august restorer of peace and of the empire), (M.I. 185, Eimer) Deep dusty tone, extremely fine or better.

Because of the lettered edge and large diameter, this medal is often encountered in lower grades with edge knocks and scratches. This example is a superb example of one of Britain’s most attractive historical medals.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
