PETER III, (1762), 1762 dated Medal or ’Memorial Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy, 50 medals or pattern roubles in polished pewter and 50 medals or pattern roubles in high grade copper, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. (150)

From a total mintage of only 975 pieces of each metal. Son of Karl-Friedrich, Duke of Holstein and Anna Petrovna, daughter of Peter the Great, Peter was chosen by Elizabeth as her heir. After becoming Czar in 1762 Peter was viewed as weak when he brokered an unpopular peace with Prussia. Peter’s wife Catherine feared he was about to divorce her so she seized power. He was later murdered.
