ALEXANDER I, (1801 - 1825), 1801 dated Medal or ’Military Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy, 50 medals or pattern roubles in polished pewter and 50 medals or pattern roubles in high grade copper, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. (150)

From a total mintage of only 450 pieces of each metal. Alexander began to view himself as a military leader and he had several early foreign policy successes. Under his rule Russia acquired Finland and parts of Poland. He made peace with Britain, Prussia and the Holy Roman Empire, but he was distrustful of Napoleon Bonaparte whom he first saw as an ally, and later as an enemy who invaded Russia in 1812.
