PAIR: King's Police Medal (EVIIR), for Gallantry; India General Service Medal 1854-1895, - three clasps - Burma 1885-7, Burma 1887-89, Kachin Hills 1892-93. W.N.Baines Commr of Police Rangoon Ind P (Burma) on first medal, Asst Supdt W.N.Baines Thayetmyo Dist Police on second medal. Both medals engraved. Very fine and very rare.
William Newbold Baines, Commissioner of Police Rangoon. Born 11Nov1855, held non-gazetted appointments from 08May1886, Inspector of Police, 2nd Class (substantive), Assistant District Superintendent of Police (Officiating) from 01Dec1886, Commissioner of Police Rangoon 05Aug1908, died Mar1910 England. KPM L G 09Nov1909 pg 8244; Gazette of India 20Nov1909 pg 1623 No.1043. This is an award for Gallantry under the provisions of the 3rd Clause of the Royal Warrant 07Jul1909.
