Pte Walter Harold Herford, age 42, farmer of Katanning, WA, previous service in Volunteer Regt (18mths) and as Trooper in Rhodesia Regiment (6 mths); Enl.13Aug1915 11 Reinfts 10th L.H.; Emb.01Nov1915 Fremantle, WA; NOK his brother, Prof. Charles Harold Herford, Victoria University, Manchester (parents deceased); 07Apr1916 TOS 4 DAC as Gunner; served with 112th Bty and to BEF Alexandria 02Jun1916; 25Jan1917 12 FAB, France; 07Sep1917 Gunner attached to 29Sqn, AFC; DOD 04Oct1917 TB, pleurisy and pneumonia; buried Tilstock Cemetery, Salop; accorded a military funeral, firing party, bearers and gun carriage being supplied by 73rd Training Reserve Batt. No.11 Camp, Prees Heath, Last Post sounded by 16 buglers of the English Regiment, oak cross erected by AIF. With research.
