CLAUDIUS, (A.D. 41-54), Romano - Indian copy of silver denarius, (3.55 grams), obv. laureate head of Claudius to right, around crude legend, rev. triumphal arch surmounted by crude rian statue left and traces of legend, (cf.S.1843, cf.RIC 45, cf.BMC 50, cf,RSC 19). Fine and very rare with packet.

Ex Pat Boland Collection and previously from David Foulger and Dave Allen Collections from a hoard found in India with first century AD, Roman coins and Spink Australia Auction Sale 7, March 1982 (lot 230). Many Roman coins, by way of trade, made their way to both India and Sri Lanka and were copied.
