DOMITIAN, (A.D. 81-96), AE sestertius, Rome mint, (24.00 grams), issued A.D. 90-91, obv. laureate head of Domitian to right, around IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XV CENS PER P P, rev. Jupiter seated to left, holding sceptre and Victory, IOVI VICTORI around, S C in exergue, (cf.S.2766, RIC 388, C.314). Obverse edge flaw, cut on face, slightly porous, otherwise good fine/fine, scarce.

Jupiter the Victorious sitting with the image of Victory in his right hand, was regarded as the conqueror of all things. In this type Domitian designates to himself the form and attributes of Jupiter Victor.
