ITALY, Lucania, Velia, (c.305/4-293/290 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.49 grams), Period VII, workshop of Philistion, obv. head of Athena to right, wearing Attic helmet with winged Nike in quadriga, griffin to left, **FILISTIWNOS* on crest holder, rev. lion crouching to left holding sword in its mouth and right paw, above Dioscuri to left between **F* and I, [**U]ELHT[WN*] ethnic in exergue, (cf.S.459, Williams 410, SNG Copenhagen 1573.7.50, SNG Lockett 559). Toned very fine and rare.
