C. FONTEIUS, (114-113 B.C.), silver denarius, (3.05 grams), obv. Janus head, F to left, [*] to right, rev. galley with pilot and three rowers, C.FONT ligated above, RO[MA] in exergue, (S.167, Cr.290/1, Syd.555, RSC Fonteia 1). Cut on reverse, otherwise very fine or better.

This type refers to the naval exploits of the praetor P. Fonteius Capito who obtained the province of Sardinia in 169 B.C.
