GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, (21.03 grams), issued 242-243, Rome mint, obv. laureate bust to right of Gordian III, draped and cuirassed, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. Gordian standing to right, holding transverse spear and globe, around P M TR P V COS II P P, S C across, (cf.S.8731, RIC 307a, C.267). Rectangular flan, dark brown patination, very fine/nearly very fine, scarce.
