PORTUGUESE INDIA, as used in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), circulated under Portuguese rule, silver two tangas 1653, Chhaul e Bacaim mint, (3.98 grams), obv. crowned arms, [C] - B, rev. standing figure of St. John, S - I across, to right below 53, (KM.3 [p.1020], M.-, Gomes 19.01). Some surface roughness, minor hoard patination, slightly off centred, otherwise fine and rare.
