ATTICA, Athens, (c.500 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.686 grams), obv. crude Archaic style head of Athena to right wearing Attic helmet with chevrons and dots, rev. owl standing to right, head facing with broad neck, to left olive spray, to right, **[A]QE*, all in incuse square, (S.1842 [£1000], cf.Sv. Pl.5, No.23, 38 [similar dies], cf.Asyut Hoard 268-310 [Group IV], Seltman Group M No.395 [Pl.XVIII], SNG Cop. 19-20). Large flan, well centred, with flan defects across part of the Athena head, otherwise fine/nearly very fine and very rare.
