L. MEMMIUS GALERIA, (c.106 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.74 grams), obv. Saturn laureate head to left, ROMA and harpa behind, rev. Venus in biga to right, X between horses legs, Cupid flies above, M.MEMMI/[GAL] in exergue, (S.190, Cr.313/1c, Syd.574a, Memmia 2a). Serrated edge, very fine, scarce.
Venus appears at the reins of the biga as she was the tutelary divinity of the Memmia gens.
