M. VOLTEIUS M.F., (c.78 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.85 grams), obv. bust of Attis or young Corybas to right, wearing laureate helmet, piercer behind, rev. Cybele seated in chariot to right drawn by two lions, **L[A]* above, M.VOLTEI. M.F. in exergue, (S.315, Cr.385/4, Syd.777, RSC. Volteia 4). Even grey patina, scrape on cheek, slightly off centred on the obverse, otherwise very fine or better and rare.

Ex Noble Numismatics sale 62, (lot 2417), previously from the Dr. John Sawhill Collection in the James Madison University Collection by Stack's New York, March 15, 1979 (lot 419 part). Mommsen notes that this coin was struck in reference to the ludi Megalenses in honour of the goddess Cybele.
